Football
INTRO
American football is clearly one of the most prominent and recognizable sports on the college scene. It is a main generator of income to the universities with lucrative TV appearances, very large stadiums and fan base that is far broader than just a students of the hosting university. College experience in USA would not be the same if it was not for the football games and the presence of the football team on every major campus in USA.
American football is rarely played by non-American student athletes. Typical pathway to the collegiate football is through participation in club and high school football teams from which majority of football players are recruited. However, there are few exceptions and there seems to be a trend to search wider international base for football talent. Some of the fastest sprinters and the largest, strongest individuals have a shot at earning a spot on the football team. Some sports provide a good background to American football. For example, there are kickers recruited from the soccer world and elite rugby players can make a transition as well. Particularly large and strong athletic individuals will also on occasion make a late entry to the sport of football.
